While making the second season of The Walking Dead, developers took fan feedback to heart and gave us better graphics, greater variety, more action and difficult moral dilemmas, as well as an even darker setting. Prepare for another sizable portion of interactive drama with QTE sequences, hardships, and survivor guilt, but this time seen through the eyes of little Clementine. The story picks up immediately after the end of season one and wastes no time before throwing the audience into the thick of things. We see Clem starting to change under the pressure of her ruthless surroundings, growing stronger and tougher. Soon the player is introduced to a new cast of characters, each with their own tragic backstory. Some of the newcomers can be pretty annoying, but others stand a chance of promptly winning you over with their apparent soft spot for the young protagonist. It's unclear why the scriptwriters struggle to come up with different methods of keeping the player on edge... Other than forcing them to choose which of the characters to sacrifice next, of course! Sadly, your party members will be dying left and right, sometimes leaving you no time at all to even put their names to memory. Overall, however, this season's narrative probably made an even greater impression on me than that of the original. Some of the plot twists have truly shocked me... At least until I stopped to ponder that the whole return to the conflict-driven style of the first season felt out of place here – no seriously, why does a teenage girl constantly have to reconcile hot-headed adults and call the shots for the entire group? What's worse is that she then typically finds herself under fire for being the only responsible person around! Finally, I really have to commend the ending because this is what I was talking about all along – actual variety in more than just a few phrases! Depending on your choice in the story's finale, the heroine can find herself surviving it out under a completely different set of circumstances. That is a huge and unexpected win for season two! 7 of 10👍
