Torment: Tides of Numenera post by Mastermind

I have finished Torment: Tides of Numenera in just one day, barely pausing to grab something to eat or take a nap. Bookaholics probably experience something similar whenever they get their hands on an especially well-written tome - I just wanted to know how the game's story ends so badly! The literary comparison is more than appropriate, too: there is so much text here, you'd think you were playing a visual novel. The bizarre eclectic setting causes no less delight than the protagonist's biography - not a real human being but a simulacrum, abandoned by his maker and left to live however he sees fit. Of course, being an adventurer, our hero simply must untangle the intricate web of lies and inconsistencies that surrounds him. I would not use the adjectives like "breakthrough" or "innovative" when talking about Torment's gameplay, but it does encourage the player to find alternative solutions rather than pick a fight with and exterminate every batch of enemies they encounter. The game expertly recreates that certain futuristic charm that only the Sci-Fi authors of old could boast. It inspires confidence that however many million years might pass and no matter what happens to the planet we inhabit, in one form or another humanity will live on. #numenera #tormenttidesofnumenera
